Special Events at Pencoys
"Dance Off"
This week Pencoys hosted a sponsored "Dance Off".
The children that take part in the weekly after school dance club had the opportunity to raise some money for new Yoga equipment, for next terms club. The children danced continuously for an hour, bopping away to some funky music. The children are looking forward to having a go at Yoga in the New Year.
Well done to those children involved - lots of money was raised and new Yoga mats are on the way!

Early Risers
At Pencoys a new project has evolved! The Early Riser Project is to encourage children to arrive to school on time and be ready to learn as soon as the bell goes!
Throughout the year there will be many different activities taking place such as quizes, breakfasts and raffles starting at 8.15 am!
The first children to participate in these fun sessions were Year 6. On the first day the children had the chance to come to school in their pyjamas and sleeping bags to have a "lie in" in the classroom.
Other activities that Year 6 were involved in were Bingo, breakfast quiz and a yummy breakfast with lots of niceties kindly donated by Warburtons.

Sponsored Listening Day
To help raise money to buy new reading books, Foundation 2 and Key Stage 1 had a sponsored listening day.
The children dressed up as their favourite book characters and listened to a variety of stories read by their teachers and support staff.
The stories included:
"When Willy went to the wedding"
"The Owl who was affraid of the Dark"
"Scarlotte Beane"
"The Cross Rabbit"
"My Friend Bear"
and many more.
Bulb Planting
Class 5 were very lucky this term, they had the chance to add a bit of "Spring" to Fourlanes. Along with some volunteers from BCTV (a voluntry group who work with adults with learning difficulties) the children planted over 1000 bulbs, donated by'Fenton Gollan Farm', in Fourlanes park.
The sun shone as the children buried, covered and scattered the bulbs all over the park. The children are looking forward to seeing their hard work sprout into life in the early spring.

Restaurant 15
Class 5 were also the lucky group who had the chance to visit the Restaurant 15 at Watergate Bay, owned by the famous chef Jamie Oliver. They spent the morning making ravioli with freshly made pasta, which was taken back to school to cook and eat. The children tasted seasonal fruit and vegetables and ate lasagne made by their own hands.
This link between Restaurant 15 and Pencoys hopes to inspire the children to work hard in school so they go on to achieve thier ambitions and dreams!
